President Simonetta Sommaruga has been Head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications since 2019 and was previously Head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police.

Balthasar Stähelin

ICRC - Director of the Office of Digital Transformation and Data

Balthasar Staehelin holds the position as the ICRC’s Director of Digital Transformation and Data as of May 2020.

He joined the ICRC in 1993 where he served in the Middle East, Africa, the Balkans and at the ICRC Headquarters in Geneva.

As Delegate-General for the Middle East and North Africa from 2002-2006, he oversaw the ICRC activities in these regions, including operations in Iraq during the Second Gulf War, before serving as the Deputy Director of Operations for Policy and Global Affairs from 2006-2008.

In 2008, he left the ICRC to join the local government in Geneva where he ran the department in charge of providing social welfare, housing, health and integration programs for refugees and asylum-seekers.

Upon his return to the ICRC in August 2012 and until June 2020, he served as the Deputy Director-General and substitute to the Director-General. His portfolio includes the supervision the ICRC’s cooperation and coordination with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as well as the building of the organization’s Global Compliance Office.

Prof. Dr. Philipp Fürnstahl promovierte 2010 an der ETH Zürich auf dem Gebiet der computergestützten Interventionen in der Orthopädie. Im Jahr 2018 erhielt er von der Universität Zürich die venia legendi und die Lehrerlaubnis in orthopädischer Forschung, im Februar 2020 folgte die Ernennung zum Professor für Orthopädische Forschung mit Schwerpunkt der Anwendung in Computer Sciences. Seit 2012 leitet Prof. Fürnstahl das ROCS Team an der Universitätsklink Balgrist.

Tout a commencé en 2006 lorsque j'ai obtenu mon diplôme de l'université de Huddersfield (Royaume-Uni) en système de contrôle informatique avec une spécialisation en modélisation des données. Puis, j'ai rejoint le secteur informatique en 2009 où j'ai commencé à travailler comme responsable de la modélisation des données, des cubes multidimensionnels et de la visualisation. Cela m'a fait réaliser que je voulais faire plus dans la gestion des données. Ainsi, de 2010 à décembre 2017, j'ai travaillé comme spécialiste en planification financière et en analyse d'affaires. Mon rôle, en tant que spécialiste, consistait à tirer parti de la valeur des données dans plusieurs secteurs d'activité. Enfin, en janvier 2018, on m'a proposé le poste de spécialiste des solutions au sein de Microsoft pour travailler sur l'industrie 4.0, les bâtiments intelligents, IoT central / Edge, l'AI et l'analyse avancée. Ma mission est donc d'évaluer les futurs projets et comment une entreprise peut faire plus avec ses données. Mais plus précisément, comment une entreprise peut constituer une équipe de centre d'excellence en matière d'intelligence artificielle (IA) et comment démarrer certains projets clés.
